Viewing: Silver Quill / Tips & Testimonials
Hey, what about this?
With the two-year time frame, can I resubmit an entry?
Yes, if it was not a winner in the prior year’s program and the work and/or measurement extends from the prior year into the current year. For the 2008 Silver Quill Awards, this means an entry can be resubmitted if it was not a winner in last year’s program and the work and/or measurement extended from 2006 into 2007.
Can I wait and submit this year’s work in next year’s competition?
The 2008 Silver Quill Awards program will accept work produced in 2007 if the work and/or measurement extend from 2007 into 2008.
Can I submit the same entry more than once?
You may submit the same entry in as many different categories as apply, but not more than once in the same category. Tailor your work plan to fit each category. Please photocopy the entry form if you will be submitting your entry in multiple categories. Be sure to pay the entry fee for each category entered.
Can I submit several different entries?
You may submit as many different entries as you wish. If you are entering several different projects, submit a separate entry form, work plan and work sample for each entry. Separate fees apply for each entry.
What if my project was created by a team? Who do I list and how do the other members receive credit for working on the project?
The entrant's name should be the PRIMARY contact person submitting on behalf of the team. This person should fill in the information on the entry form. At the judging process, the number of people on the project team makes no difference, as the judging is blind. If your entry wins an award, the contact person listed will be asked if any other project team members should be formally recognized.
Where do I send my entry?
Watch here for details on where to submit entries for the 2008 Silver Quill Awards.
How are entries judged and awards determined?
Silver Quill Awards coordinators recruit a regional network of judges, who evaluate all entries. Two judges evaluate each entry, using standardized criteria. Entries scoring 5.75 and above receive an Award of Excellence. Those scoring 5.25 and upwards receive an Award of Merit. There is no maximum number of awards that can be presented. Entries do not compete against each other. All judges’ decisions are final.
How are entries scored?
Winning entries must meet clearly-stated objectives and show originality and results based on measured outcomes. Judges consider how well a program is conceived and executed, how appropriate the strategy and objectives are in relation to the results desired and achieved, and how the outcomes are measured. For Communication Management entries, the work plan and the work sample are each worth 50 percent of the score. For Communication Skills entries, the work plan is worth 40 percent and the work sample is worth 60 percent of the score. For Communication Creative entries, the work plan is worth 25 percent and the work sample is worth 75 percent of the score.
Do entrants receive feedback?
Entrants receive an evaluation form with scores and brief comments for each entry submitted. All evaluation forms for the 2008 Silver Quill Awards Program will be mailed by September 30, 2008.
How are winners notified and recognized?
Winners of 2008 Silver Quill Awards will be notified in August 2008. (Notification for finalists, no-award entrants and disqualified entrants also will be sent by August 30, 2008.) Winners will be recognized at a special event during the Pacific Plains Region Exchange, September 21, 2008 in Seattle, WA. They will be featured on the IABC Pacific Plains web site and in chapter newsletters.

What happens to the entries?
No material will be returned. There are no exceptions. Do not send irreplaceable material. All entries become the property of IABC. (If the material is proprietary, indicate this clearly on your entry and entry form.) IABC is not responsible for lost or damaged entries. Due to the volume of material received, IABC does not as a rule confirm receipt of entries or fees; send both by a form of traceable delivery if you want confirmation of receipt.
Which category or division should I enter?
For clarification about specific categories and divisions, contact Kim Coulter at coultermk@msn.com. She will do her best to help. Your entry may be disqualified, without refund of fees, if submitted to the wrong category.
Do judges really pay attention to details such as permitted font size and length of work plan?
Yes, they do. Get this wrong, and you have no chance of winning.
I’m entering a large campaign. How can I make my entry fit the size limit?
A lot of information will fit in a one-inch binder, which is the maximum size allowed. Organize and summarize your material. If tight for space, you do not need to submit an entire slide show or all of the news clips. Provide a summary of research results, not all feedback received. The work sample should illustrate your work—you are not required to document each and every aspect.
