Connie Eckard

Congratulations Connie on Your Achievement --

2007 IABC Fellow

Connie Eckard, ABC, PhD, believes in the profession of organizational communication. And because he is a believer, he has continually sought ways to make the profession more pertinent and valued than it was when he came on the scene in 1963.

He has managed and directed and coordinated and specialized while communicating about people in the businesses of electronics, energy, aerospace, steel and, most recently, nuclear waste cleanup.

He has done workshops and seminars on writing, career planning, newsletters, accreditation and excellence in communication programs. He’s made presentations in the USA, Canada and Thailand for IABC chapters as well as district and international conferences. His recent presentations have focused on the importance and value of incorporating communication into the fiber and makeup of the workplace.

He is a strong advocate of professional growth and development. This has made him a mentor and counselor – working one-on-one to help communicators realize and appreciate the importance of what they bring to organizational decision making. He has been on innumerable judging panels for IABC awards programs. And because professionalism isn’t limited to IABC, he has helped critique communication efforts for other organizations, such as the Society of Professional Journalists.

His writing has appeared in periodicals like the Journal of Employee Communication Management, the Williams Report, the Ragan Report, Communications Illustrated, IABC’s Communication World, SPJ’s Quill and ICIE’s Reporting. He was an unpublished ghost writer for “Inside Organizational Communication,” third edition, in 1999 and signed his honorarium over to the IABC Research Foundation.

He believes accreditation is an individual indication of our belief in our own professionalism. He has been a member of IABC's Accreditation Council and currently grades written and oral examinations.
