IABC Pacific Plains Region is a non-profit organization that supports the leaders and members of the region’s IABC chapters with resources and professional development opportunities, and the IABC PPR Exchange Conference is instrumental in financially supporting these goals.
As with many non-profit conference events, all confirmed speakers are required to formally register and pay their registration if they plan to attend all or part of the conference, as there are significant costs associated with each attendee.
If you as a speaker are attending only your session to present and do not plan on participating in the conference, your registration fee is waived. However, we require that you still formally register. All speakers are responsible for travel, hotel, and other expenses related to participating in the event.

On Sept. 21-23, 2008, more than 150 professional communicators met in Seattle at the inaugural International Association of Business Communicators Pacific Plains Region Exchange Conference. According to Brian Everett, ABC, IABC PPR Exchange Conference Chairman and Senior Partner, MindShare Strategies, the event was a significant success.
“This IABC PPR conference brought together communication executives from various industries who were looking to build their knowledge on emerging trends,” said Everett. “This event covered topics in corporate communications, ranging from global communications, branding, going green in communications, PR measurement, and merger/acquisition communications to social media, Intranets and writing for online strategies, and social media.”
The conference featured keynote Valerie O’Neil, vice president, global communications for Starbucks Coffee Co., who discussed the power of effective communication and its role in building Starbucks’ brand. In addition, Carol Kinsey Goman, Ph.D., an author and renowned speaker, discussed the importance of understanding non-verbal communication and body language, and their impact on relationships and what is communicated. The conference also featured best practices in corporate communication that earned the 2008 IABC PPR Silver Quill Award. Communication professionals discussed what it takes to create successful communication programs with leading organizations, including Monsanto, Rolls Royce, eBay, and Cisco, to name a few.
In addition, the conference provided an abundant number of opportunities for attendees to build connections with peers—a requirement for today’s successful communicator. IABC PPR announced that its second annual Exchange conference will take place in Minneapolis next fall. Dates and more details will be available soon.
