Laura Vernon, Chapter Advocate

Laura is a PhD candidate in the Theory and Practice of Professional Communication at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. Her research areas include rhetoric, environmental communication, and gender equity. In addition to her studies, she teaches undergraduate writing courses and mentors up-and-coming professional writers. Before returning to school, Laura held various communication positions in both the private and public sectors in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her professional experience includes media relations, public relations, organizational communication, editing, and publication management. She has a master’s degree in professional communication and bachelor’s degree in journalism. Laura has been a member of IABC since 1997. She served on the IABC/Utah Board of Directors for six years from 2001-2007. During this time, IABC recognized the Utah Chapter as “Small Chapter of the Year” and for their excellence in professional development, communications, and financial development. She has held a variety of positions on the chapter board, including newsletter editor, communications vice president, membership vice president, senior delegate, and president.
