Lance Tanaka, Chapter Advocate

Lance is manager of government relations for Tesoro Hawaii where he is responsible for collaborating with government agencies and officials in advancing the business and corporate citizenry interests of the company. Lance began his career as a staff designer and illustrator working for Bruce Hopper Design, Inc., at the time the largest graphic design studio in Hawaii. In 1980, he joined the McDonnell Douglas Corporation in Long Beach, California (now the Boeing Company) as a graphic designer in the firm’s commercial transport aircraft division, Douglas Aircraft Company.  In 1995, Tanaka joined the Bank of Hawaii Corporation, Hawaii’s largest independent financial institution where he held a number of positions including vice president and manager of governmental affairs. He belongs to IABC Hawaii and is a past president of the chapter. He has served on the Pacific Plains Board for the past two years as a chapter advocate and held a similar position with the former US District 6. Lance resides on the island of Oahu with his wife, Patricia, and daughters Elise and Kristen. He enjoys playing the guitar and tennis in his spare time, and collects books on architecture and home design.
